Rent-to-own (or Lease with Option to Buy) is a contract (still relatively uncommon in Spain) that combines a rental agreement with the possibility of purchasing the property at the end of the rental period. As part of the contract, the future purchase price of the property is agreed in advance (or at least the method for determining it), along with the rental duration (typically between 1 and 5 years). In some cases, an upfront fee is charged for the purchase option, but it’s also common for part of the rent paid to be deducted from the final sale price (both conditions are agreed upon when the contract is signed).
This option can benefit both tenant and owner: the tenant can save money during the rental period and secure a pre-agreed purchase price, while the owner receives a stable income throughout the term of the contract and a predictable sale in the medium term.
